Making a Child's
Party Dreams Come True
By Angel Lopez
Do you have a
couple of birthday parties to plan this
year? The first thing you need to do is
to "START PLANNING EARLY."
You must give yourself adequate time to
prepare your party if you want it to be
the perfect party. Giving yourself
plenty of time allows you to be more
creative with party invitations,
entertainment and decor. So often,
you can not find all the party supplies
and decor at one store or the
entertainment you really want is booked
for that day because you only called the
company two days ago.
What is the
Party Planning Time Etiquette?
Four to Six
Weeks before the Party:
Select an age
appropriate party theme - Some
great ideas are: Tea party, Glamour
makeover party, construction zone party,
monster truck party.
Make a guest list
Make a party food menu
Make a party activities list - Some
great activities are: Set up a Craft
table, musical chairs, bingo, water
balloon toss
Make a supplies list. This should
include decorations, supplies, food and
favors
Order/Create invitations to compliment
party theme
Two-Three
Weeks before the Party:
Fill out
invitations and mail/drop them off
Take your supplies list and go buy party
supplies
If you are designing your own decorations
and favor, start them now
Order cake from a bakery if you are not
making your own. Cupcakes are always a
hit too!
Are you having a big party? Arrange
to have extra help
One
Week before the Party:
If you are making
decorations and favors, you should
complete them
Make sure you have confirmed your cake if
you ordered one
Make sure you have all party supplies,
gifts bags and treats. Some treat
bag ideas: Candy (of course), crazy
straws, yo-yos, slinks, pencils, or
stickers. Make sure all party bags are
age appropriate and labeled.
Pull out and finalize your schedule of
activities for the party.
Two-Three
Days before the Party:
Buy & prepare
remaining food for the party.
Buy film and/or videotape.
Check batteries for cameras, flash units,
and/or camcorders.
Get an exact guest count, tally responses
and call those who haven't responded.
Bake your own homemade cake today
One Day
before the Party:
Pick up the cake
from bakery. To keep cake fresh, insert
toothpicks along perimeter and in middle
section of the cake, 1/2" deep.
Cover loosely with foil or plastic wrap.
Place in refrigerator.)
Decorate any indoor areas of party. (Do
not decorate outside area until the day
of the party.
Double check to make sure all food has
been prepared, all areas are safe if this
is a kids party and you have enough
prizes & treat bags for confirmed
guest.
This list is a good one to get you
started. You can add and change a
few things according to they type of
party or event you are planning.
Another important thing to remember
is that your child's party should be fun.
Try not to make it too long.
I would say a good hour and a half
for preschoolers and two to three hours
for the older kids. Using this list
should help to eliminate some of the last
minute pressures of planning your childs
party.
